2022 was marked by Lorette Charpy's comeback on the elite international stage. After suffering a brutal injury last year before Europeans 2021 Championships, she had to get surgery and undergo physical therapy.
The 20-year old french gymnast from Annonay started competing back last september for the French national test. She was later sent to 2022 World Cup alongside her teammate Carolann Heduit, who was on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic team for France.
She was set to compete for all four apparatus during qualifications.
Lorette posted a 13,733 on bars getting the 2nd best score & qualifying for finals.
13,000 on Beam, qualifying for finals in 5th place
12,566 on Floor, qualifying for finals too.
Lorette competed last on uneven bars final, and her top competitor Naomi VISSER fell during her routine scoring 13,100 which opened the door for her.
Lorette competed a beautiful uneven bars routine with no mistake, scoring 13,866 (5.7 D - 8;166 E) which guaranteed her the gold medal. A successfull comeback for her first international competition since the 2020 American Cup.
The french national anthem was playing in Baku, and it was one successful comeback for Lorette Charpy. Lorette said she was super grateful for her physio who helped her on her road to recovery.
