Top routines from rising junior gymnasts at DTB Pokal

In addition to the well-established Team Challenge for MAG and WAG, the EnBW DTB Pokal from now on includes a Team Challenge for juniors (WAG: 14-15 years old, MAG: 15-18 years old).

In the Team Challenge a team consists of three to five athletes, three or four compete at each apparatus and the best three scores are taken into account for the team total. This competition format is well-suited for federations to bring their athletes together as a team and kick off the season with the upcoming annual highlights e.g., Continental Championships and World Championships.

There are 12 starting places for MAG and 8 for WAG (juniors and seniors each).

For many juniors, this one was one of the first time competing internationally in several years.

14-year old junior Ella Kate Parker from the USA (Cincinnati Gymnastics) really stood up with her super energetic floor routine getting the bronze medal, she scored 12,266 (4.3 D & 7;966). She looked super expressive & confident throughout the entire competition. She and her team also won team GOLD with a 154,029 points.

One of her teammates, Tiana Sumanasekera (USA - West Valley Gymnastics School) made two apparatus finals (vault & beam) and medalled on both. She was crowned the vault champion with the only junior gymnast to present a double twisting yurchenko during the final and she got 14,033 (5. - 9.033) on her first vault. She scored a 9,133 on her second vault with an average at 13.683.
